Narrative Responses:

Purpose
Evaluate the results of intraoperative aberrometry with streaming refractive data in non-study clinical use.

Methods
Eyes undergoing cataract surgery with IOL power selection guided by an intraoperative aberrometry system that utilizes streaming refractive data (ORA with VerifEye, WaveTec Vision) were analyzed.  IOL power calculation based on preoperative biometry was reported, but the final power selection was based on the ORA refraction measured intraoperatively.  Post-refractive surgery eyes and those with no postoperative data entered into a global database were excluded.  Prediction error results and the distribution of postoperative refractive error are reported for all eyes and for eyes implanted with toric IOLs.

Results
Results for 1,500 eyes, including more than 300 toric cases, will be reported.  According to initial data, 99% of eyes are within 1.00 D of the predicted spherical equivalent (SE) and 84% are within 0.50 D, with a mean absolute value prediction error (MAVPE) of 0.29 D ± 0.21 D.  In eyes implanted with toric IOLs, mean preop keratometric astigmatism of 2.46 D ± 1.14 D was reduced to 0.49 D ± 0.42 D postop, an 81% reduction.  70% of the eyes implanted with toric IOLs were within 0.50 D of predicted SE postoperatively and 96% were within 1.0 D.

Conclusion
Real-world clinical use of an intraoperative aberrometer utilizing streaming refractive data provides excellent refractive results, similar to those obtained in a structured multi-center trial.
