Retrospective Study of Visual Outcomes and Complications After Sutureless, Flapless, and Glueless Intrascleral Fixation of Posterior Chamber IOL in Cases With Inadequate Capsule Support
Narrative Responses:
Purpose
To evaluate the visual outcomes and complications among cases of sutureless, flapless and glueless intrascleral fixation of posterior chamber IOL in cases inadequate capsular support.
Methods
A retrospective study of 106 patients with mean follow-up of 8 months after Intrascleral fixation of the haptics of a standard 3-piece PCIOL without sutures or glue,in cases inadequate capsular support. The main outcome measures were improvement in visual acuity, early and late postoperative complications including scleral thinning.
Results
Mean LogMAR visual acuity change from Uncorrected preoperative to best corrected postoperative was 1.63 (0.38SD) to 0.21 (0.18SD) p<0.001.Early Postoperative complications (within 1 month) include corneal oedema (21%), raised IOP (2%) vitreous hemorrhage (18%), hyphema (2%). Late postoperative complications included raised IOP (9%), cystoid macular edema (6%), retinal detachment (1%). No cases showed scleral thinning/haptic erosion.
Conclusion
Technique of flapless, glueless, sutureless scleral fixation of 3 piece IOL showed significant improvement in visual acuity. Early and late postoperative complications were managed conservatively.
