Surgical Outcomes With New Patient Interface for Laser Refractive Cataract Surgery
Narrative Responses:
Purpose
To present surgical outcomes with a new Patient Interface (Softit, Alcon Lensx) designed for laser Refractive cataract surgery.
Methods
A Prospective, multi-center study of 77 consecutive eyes of patients undergoing laser refractive cataract surgery with a new patient interface with a femtosecond Laser. Patients were evaluated for ease of docking, corneal compression, and capsulotomy completion. All cases were videotaped in HD video and examples will be shown to illustrate different capsulotomies.
Results
Docking was easier and well-centered with the new interface in 97.4% of the cases. There was no corneal distortion in 98.7% of the cases. Cut quality was excellent as shown with 98.7% free floating capsulotomies with pristine edge quality and distinct nuclear separation even with increased laser spot separation and decreased laser energy.
Conclusion
This new patient interface demonstrates excellent performance outcome even with reduced laser energy applied to the eye. Patients are more comfortable with the easier and gentle docking process. The complete capsule and nuclear incisions reduces surgical manipulation and required techniques to complete the cataract extraction.
