Narrative Responses:

Purpose
To evaluate visual outcome of diffractive multifocal IOL in pediatric population.

Methods
Ten children (twenty eyes) (age group 8 years to 16 years) had undergone cataract surgery with implantation of diffractive multifocal IOLs (Alcon AcrySof ReSTOR in 10 eyes and an AMO Tecnis Multifocal IOL in 10 eyes).

Results
Ten children (20 eyes) had an average follow-up of 15.4 +/- 1.7 months. At last follow-up, best-corrected distance visual acuity improved significantly, 90% of eyes with unaided visual acuity of 20/30 or better (for distance) and N9 or better (for near).

Conclusion
Results of this pilot study suggest that newer-generation aspheric diffractive multifocal IOLs are suitable for pediatric population older than 8 years.
