Synopsis & Educational Value
Course will discuss actual malpractice cases where careful preparation and coordination did not occur, and will be presented to illustrate the risks to patient safety and the need for safer protocols. Such a protocol was developed specifically for ophthalmology and will be explored in detail. Participants will have ample opportunity to discuss how to implement it where they work.

Learning Objectives
Attendee will determine points in the care process when a surgical checklist is needed and develop a plan to implement protocols in all healthcare settings.
