To study the effects of a new instrument and technique for lid massage intended to open the obstructed Meibomian glands of patients with this dysfunction with a new instrument and protocol.

Using the new Meibomian Gland Expressor (Rhein Instruments) the lids are sequentially massaged in a vertical fashion. The massage is repeated at two weeks sequentially for a total of 3 sessions. Patients were reevaluated with the same tests to document improvement or change in tear function.

The patients were followed for a minimum of three month all 12 patients described a remarkable improvement in symptomatology after the treatment was applied.

This study has demonstrated the safety and efficacy for the treatment of Meibomian Gland Expressor. This new tool is an effective and relatively inexpensive method.
