Purpose
To study the prevalence of corneal astigmatism and its magnitude and orientation in patients booked for cataract surgery.

Methods
It is a prospective non randomized analytical study of the preoperative profile of 5322 eyes over 1 year in a tertiary eye care centre.A single operator did all the keratometry in IOL MASTER and generated K1 AND K2  .

Results
The  readings were grouped as per the decade they belonged .The average  of KH was 43.8D and average of KV was 43.1D.With increase of age ATR astigmatism increased as usual.The average difference in between the steep and flat meridian was 0.7 D.Few had K.Vertical more than K.Horizontal.

Conclusion
Corneal astigmatism less than 1.25 D was present in most cataract surgery candidates;

it was higher in few, with slight differences between the various age ranges.
