Presbyopic IOLs in Post-Radial-Keratotomy Eyes
Narrative Responses:
Purpose
To evaluate the clinical outcomes of presbyopic implants (Pi) in the eyes of post-radial keratotomy patients undergoing cataract eye surgery or presbyopic refractive lens exchange.
Methods
Retrospective non-randomized, non-comparative study. The medical charts of 21 eyes of 11 consecutive patients who had previously had radial keratotomy and then had cataract surgery or presbyopic refractive lens exchange with insertion of presbyopic implants and followed-up at least until 6 months after the implants, were reviewed.
Results
There was a significant improvement in the uncorrected distance visual acuity postoperatively (p< 0.02) at the last follow-up date. The procedure is safe as no eyes (0%) lost 2 or more lines postoperatively at 6 months. The postoperative SE was within -1.50D to +1.50 D in 66% of eyes.
Conclusion
Presbyopic implants after radial keratotomy are safe and effective but require further refinements.
