Purpose
To determine usefulness of a new semicircular capsulotomy marker in completion of continuous curvilinear capusulorrhexis (CCC) by residents.

Methods
In 12 eyes of 12 patients who underwent phacoemulsification performed by reidents, a newly designed semicircular marker with an internal diameter of 5.5 mm was used to place a circular mark directly on the lens capsule (marker group). In other 12 eyes of 12 patients, the marker was not used (control). The resultant size of CCC in each case was confirmed by analysis of the video image.

Results
In the average CCC diameter size, there was no significant difference between the marker group and control, 5.015±0.2mm and 5.136±0.4mm, respectively (t-test). However, the range between the maximum and minimum CCC diameter was significantly greater in control than in the marker group (p<0.05, F-test). The completion rate of IOL coverage by the anterior capsule was 11/12 in the marker group, while 8/12 in control.

Conclusion
The semicircular capusulotomy marker was useful for training of CCC procedure by residents.
