Narrative Responses:

Purpose
To prospectively evaluate postoperative visual acuities of subjects bilaterally implanted with a quarter diopter bi-aspheric, segmented bifocal lens.

Methods
Over 6 weeks, twenty adult subjects with bilateral visually significant cataracts and <1.00D of corneal astigmatism were bilaterally implanted with the segmented bifocal lens and followed for 6 months.

Results
Forty eyes were available for 6 month evaluation.  Mean binocular UCVA outcomes were -0.09, 0.02 and -0.01 LogMAR at 4M, 70cm and 40cm respectively, and mean binocular BCVA of -0.10 and -0.03 LogMAR at 4M and 40cm respectively.  The mean binocular DCVA was   -0.10, 0.03 and -0.02 LogMAR at 4M, 70cm and 40cm respectively.  A patient survey was given which demonstrated 88.9% were spectacle free all of the time while 11.1% wore low power reading glasses in dim light.

Conclusion
The 6 month post-op results indicate that this lens provides excellent uncorrected distance, intermediate and near vision without compromising BCV in patients who desire to be less spectacle dependent.
