Improving Refractive Outcomes: Treating Inside the Capsule with Trypan Blue

Ophthalmologists vary in their zeal to remove lens epithelial cells (LECs) during cataract surgery. Trypan blue impairs LEC survival. Trypan blue applied inside the capsule will diffusely retard LECs. The benefit is tighter distribution of refractive outcomes. Before using this technique, 73% of my outcomes were ±0.50 D intended target. Using trypan blue, the results improved to 93%.
