Clinical Outcomes of the Biplanar IOL With Iridocapsular Fixation in Eyes With Severe Zonular Defects (Presented in Russian)
Purpose
To evaluate safety and functional outcomes of the biplanar intraocular lens (IOL) RSP-3 with iridocapsular fixation after cataract surgery in eyes with lens subluxation.
Methods
Study included twenty eyes (20 patients) with lens subluxation. Mean age was 67.65±13.96 years. In all eyes 2.2 mm incision cataract surgery was performed, biplanar IOL model RSP-3 (NEP Eye Microsurgery, Russia) was implanted and iridocapsular IOL fixation was achieved. The corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuity, refraction, and intraocular pressure (IOP) were evaluated postoperatively at 1 day and 1 month.
Results
Cataract surgery was uneventful in all eyes. At 1 day and 1month mean CDVA (decimal units) were 0.62±0.27 and 0.67±0.28 (p>.05); mean spherical equivalent values were -1.55±0.74 D and -0.88±0.90 D (p<.05); mean IOP data were 20.75±10.91 mm Hg and 16.61±3.85 mm Hg (p<.05) respectively. In 4 eyes with coexisting glaucoma IOP rise from 25 to 55 mm Hg was observed at 1 day follow-up. In all cases IOP was normalized by up to 1 week with drops. No other adverse events were noticed.
Conclusion
The study found high safety and good functional results after cataract surgery and implantation of biplanar IOL with iridocapsular fixation in eyes with severe zonular defects.
