Toric IOL in Patients With Treated Keratoconus (Presented in Russian)

Purpose
To evaluate the management of keratoconus by combination of crosslinking and Toric IOL implantation.

Methods
Eleven eyes of 6 patients in presbyopic age with moderate to severe keratoconus without central scar were enrolled in this study. Crosslinking was performed as the 1st step of treatment. After 1 year follow-up the 2nd step was done - phacoemulsification with Toric Intraocular lens implantation. Acrysof Toric calculator was used for each case to estimate the correct type of intraocular lens. The uncorrected visual acuity, best corrected visual acuity, residual refractive sphere, residual keratometric and refractive cylinders were measured.

Results
All eyes treated by combination of crosslinking with implantation AcrySof Toric IOL had significant improvement in best corrected and uncorrected visual acuity (BCVA, UCBA). Six eyes had a postop residual refractive error which allowed the patients to wear glasses successfully. Five eyes had emmetropia postop. In every case was some regularization of the corneal topographic pattern. The mean refractive cylinder decreased significantly after surgery from – 6.34 ± 1.28D to -1.5 ±0.36 D. There was no significant complication during or after surgery.

Conclusion
The results indicate that combination of crosslinking with implantation Toric IOL implantation is an effective option to correct keratoconus in the patient in presbyopic age.
